Brief Description:

The third Governor General of Pakistan which name was “Malik Ghulam Muhammad”. He belonged to the Pashtun Family, born in Lahore in 1895. He spent his childhood in the streets of Lahore because he spends time in the Lahore, the Lahori culture was visible on his personality. He got his early education from Lahore and went to “Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)”[1]. He got married to “Badshah Begum” and had two children[2]. Ghulam Muhammad Ahmed joined the railways when the First World War started[1]. His work was on the control of the supplier’s supply and the purchasing. In other words, he was the Minister of the Finance Department in British India. He became the founder of the “Mahindra & Muhammad Company” and later the name changed to “Mahindra & Mahindra Motors Company” which is the largest SUV car makers in India. He was ill due to the paralysis which spread in his whole body and died on 29th August 1956. He was buried in Karachi. The graveyard named “Gora Qabrastan” which was Christian’s Graveyard and it is nearly located to “Fauji’s Qabristan”[3].

Life of Malik Ghulam Muhammad:

Malik Ghulam Muhammad was born in Lahore on 20th April 1895. Malik Ghulam Muhammad was from a Pathan (Pashtun) family. His childhood and younger age were spent in Lahore which had a huge impact on his personality. He got his early education from Lahore and went to “Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)” of “MOA College”. The university located in “Uttar Pradesh”. There he met with “Nazir Ahmed” who was a physicist and a bureaucrat. In Aligarh Muslim University, he completed his B.A degree in accounts.

Help of Liaqat Ali Khan and financial adviser:

In the table conference, he presented as the Nawab of Bahawalpur. Ghulam Muhammad also worked for the “Financial Advisor” of the Hyderabad for the “Nizam” “Liaqat Ali Khan” became the Minister of the Finance department he helped him in the methodological affairs. He also helped Liaqat Ali Khan to prepare the historical budget named “Poor man’s Budget”[3].

Post of Ministry:

After Pakistan came into being in 1947, Ghulam Ahmed started the first Cabinet of Pakistan and became the Finance Minister. With the Minister of Finance in the Cabinet, he helped Pakistan when Pakistan was face crises from all sides. He helps the relatives of the Nizam of Hyderabad, he help and modify the financial aid for the newly born Pakistan. His effort and a hard-working result that the “International Islamic Conference” held in Karachi that continued from 26th November to 6th December 1949. It organized by Ghulam Muhammad in Pakistan. It organized by Pakistan under the process of Ghulam Muhammad. All Finance Minister of Muslim countries participates in that conference. When he addressed, he gave the establishment of the economic block of the Muslim countries[3].

Death of Liaqat Ali Khan and take over by Ghulam Muhammad:

When there was his Govt., Liaqat Ali Khan died, at that time Ghulam Muhammad was ill his health was not well, Liaqat Ali Khan wanted to remove from the table. He was not able to do more work. Then, Liaqat Ali Khan died Ghulam Muhammad takes over the table of Cabinet. He became the 3rd Governor-General of Pakistan, after “Khawaja Nazimuddin” resigned. The cabinet nominated “Ghulam Muhammad” as the 3rd Governor-General of Pakistan. After taking the charge of the post of “Governor-General” Ghulam Muhammad took interest in Pakistan affairs, and “Khawaja Nazimuddin” became a helpless Governor-General which has no power in the cabinet. “Khawaja Nazimuddin” and his cabinet gave the challenge to “Ghulam Muhammad’s” specialist, at last, “Ghulam Muhammad” and his cabinet planned a scheme against the cabinet with the help of bureaucratic and the military leadership. Under the “Provisional Constitution”, Ghulam Muhammad used his optional powers which were providing benefits to the Governor General office during the pleasure of the Governor-General and his cabinet dismissed the Ministry of Nazimuddin[3].

Third Governor General of Pakistan:

Ghulam Muhammad gave support to Muhammad Ali Bogra as the “Ambassador of Pakistan” in the United States. He nominated as the subsequent Governor-General of Pakistan. He then softens the legislative assembly of Pakistan, when he was trying to deny the Governor-General to discretionary powers with the help of which he had been terminated the former Prime Minister. The President of the legislative assembly challenged the decision by “Molvi Tamizuddin” in the “Sindh High Court”. Then at that time, the “Supreme Court of Pakistan” gave the decision in favor of the “Ghulam Muhammad” the “Governor-General of Pakistan”[3].

Death of Ghulam Muhammad:

Ghulam Muhammad was ill and the paralysis attack on him, due to this he took leave for about 2 months. He was removed from the cabinet and give him the tribute of “Governor-Iskandar Mirzadue to his work action while he was a Governor-General. His charge was taken by the Government and he died on 29th August 1956[3].

Awards:

Ghulam Muhammad was awarded due to two highly effective and hard-working which were “Knight Rider” and “the Order of the Indian Empire.[2]”
